Barker Bariatric Center and Forest Park Medical Center Partner to Donate Free Gastric Bypass Procedure
Barker Bariatric Center, led by premier weight loss surgeon Dr. Wade Barker, and Forest Park Medical Center, a full-service, acute-care hospital located in Dallas, have announced the donation of a free gastric bypass procedure in recognition of American Diabetes Month® in November.

In support of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), team members from Barker Bariatric Center and Forest Park Medical Center have organized a walking team and will be participating on October 31. Joining their team will be patients of Dr. Barker who have undergone weight loss surgery and, as a result, recovered from type 2 diabetes. The team’s goal is to foster diabetes awareness and raise funds to fight the disease which has become a growing epidemic in Texas.
“According to the ADA, more than 23 million Americans are living with diabetes. I believe providing a free gastric bypass procedure will give a local resident afflicted by this disease an opportunity to regain their health and a better quality of life,” said Dr. Barker, founder of Barker Bariatric Center and co-founder of Forest Park Medical Center. “I look forward to participating in the 2009 Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes alongside Forest Park Medical Center and my patients who have recovered from type 2 diabetes and continue to strive for better health.”

Free Gastric Bypass Procedure Rules & Restrictions
• Must be 18 or older to apply.
• The winner of the free gastric bypass must currently be living with type 2 diabetes.
• All applicants will need to be interviewed at Forest Park Medical Center to be eligible to win.
• Winner must consent to possible media coverage.
• From all entries, five candidates will be selected as finalists. Final winner will be chosen by Dr. Wade Barker and must meet screening criteria for a gastric bypass surgery.
